cowboy food

Some of the most tasty and healthy foods are also some of the most simple, for example: beans with green chile and cornbread. These are pink beans that were cooked with garlic, salt, pepper and vegetable boullion until just tender then jacked up with a big heaping spoonful of green chile.

How can it get more simple than this, mix the batter in the pan and bake it.

We dont have any superbowl sunday plans since we are not the biggest sports fans in the whole world but it is a food day so we shall see what what we shall make and we shall make things in honor of the day.

So long as you have Fritos, anything you make is Super Bowl food!

Somehow I made two comments about Fritos, here's a 3rd - cream cheese softened with green chile & garlic salt goes perfect with Fritos!

I'm no fan of sports, and my men are only to a limited degree fans of football, but I'm a fan of "Let's cook several pans full of miscellaneous interesting small foods, and let folks participate in free range grazing!" Plus, the ads are fun, sometimes.

So this is, besides being a big sporting event, a big day for food and eating?

ap: ok, fritos it is!

marjie: I watch the ads, the kick off, half time, and then when it gets near the end - I guess I DO glance at it during the whole game - but - its the only game I have watched all year.

anette: Yeah, only second to Thanksgiving when it comes to buffet style hand food, well actually first in the hand food category second in the buffet large group thing.

beth: I dont even watch food shows, I watch 'how its made' and things like that....

We have plans of watching the commercials ;)

Skillet cornbread and cowboy beans--I dig! You should somehow live in rural Mississippi for a year, just to concrete your steez.

Happy Super Bowl to Dog and Family! (isn't it crazy that this is just as big a holiday as Thanksgiving--except it has a distinct hot wing taste...)

tavolini: whats a 'steez' I didnt even know I had one...

Love skillet cornbread. One of my favorite and inexpensive dishes. ;)

football, schmOOOTTball. I prefer kids sports over professional any day. They "PROS" are so overpaid.

Living where I do, we have green chile coming out the wazoo...not my wazoo, but, you know what I mean. We have a grocery store called Big 8. It's not a great store by any means, but everyday there is an Igloo cooler filled with fresh roasted green chiles for sale. For game day, I made a huge batch of beef enchiladas with green chile added, of course.

My wife is going to a play, and I don't know if I'm going to watch the game with friends, or my Airedale... Pork tenderloin for dinner before game...

Dog, I love your blog. In fact, you've inspired me. I think I'll spend the afternoon cooking SuperBowl food, including a pan of from-scratch brownies.

Gee, Old Dog will think this is like a Super Bowl Sunday miracle!
