severe subject matter
I warned you and I will warn you again, for some of you the word salmon is enough. This delicious soup has shrimp and potatoes and carrots but it starts a little dramatically. We are gearing up towards the presidential inauguration - the Obamagate Party, the biggest tailgate party of our generation, so we hooked ourselves up with super nutritional soup.
These are the beautiful ingredients as they lay in the ice waiting for me to pick out some favorites.
These are the same beauties in the pot, we make this about once or twice a year, if that often.
These are those babies up close, you can see how fresh they are. (you will notice that I carefully do not say 'salmon head') This all gets simmered until the potatoes are done.
Ladle it up, serve with sour dough biscuits if you have them, and remember - I warned you! Oh yeah, this video gets posted tomorrow.

I can't se the actual head in your soup bowl? Do you do it like my father does with his cod heads? Put it on a plate by itself and eat the meaty parts of it? He claims they are extra tasty! I can believe him (if I close my eyes), yet I don't do it myself as I feel its a bit to much eating something that still has eyes...
It's looking at me! Yikes. Fish.... not so much. Fish broth for soup- okay. Colors are pretty tho!
I'd buy those just for the fish cheeks! A deep-fried, or sauteed delicacy! Making Ale? Hope all turns out well... I used to make wine, which is easier, but you have to wait so long before it's good to drink!
we are so in sync, I had boiled fish Bahamian style this weekend.
again? must be good, can't wait to see what next months version will be!
anette: it came apart - its there -believe me...
starr: I know- a little stark...
buff: yeah, a little ale, the cheeks on these are decent, there are some pretty big heads to choose from...
snugs: wavelength baby wavelength but what is Bahamian style?
misfit: do you mean next years?
mmmmmm wow! I know that they heads have a lot of flavor...looks delish!
um....ya.
can I just pick the fish out and eat the rest? and close my eyes?
looks good - love the picture with the fish heads :) I've visited your blog a few times now and really like it.
This looks right up my wheelhouse.
Where is the party, I am coming over.
I make fish head soup with with miso base.
Fish always make a nice dish...
just telling: thats about all the heads have - flavor.
beth: no, you have to eat everything in your bowl!
5 star foodie: I appreciate your visits and I thank you.
fumi: mmmmm a miso base sounds like an excellent idea - next time I will try it.
e: fish is as fish does - didnt gump say that?
I couldn't eat with the fish looking at me! I prefer to think my meat magically appears!
Damn....that looks good!
I might not be able to keep coming back here......it's a tease to me. I'll never see dishes like that at home.
How did that beer come out?
TBD: it stops staring after a while -
micky-t: it wont be ready till some time in february...
I have no problem with recognizable fish parts in my soup. Unfortunately, I'm not sure where I can find this many in my neighborhood - most are pretty well filleted by the time they reach us!
more like severe seafood fever... looks so flavorful... :)
It's probably really good, but I can't eat those fish heads.
do you eat the eyeballs?
I was going to make a fish soup tonight too.
That fish is beautiful. Believe it or not, I don't have a good fish market here. I have to go into the city for the pretty ones.
wow, that's chock full of seafood, for sure!
I'm unsure about the soup looking back at me ;)
gross.
YUM!!! I've been dumpster diving for Salmon Heads while crabbing on the Oregon Coast! Great bait!
