corned beef

Corned beef and cabbage time again. In fact I like corned beef so much I have even made it other times as well.





Typically we skip over the plates of roots, cabbage and beef and go straight to crackin' out the rye bread and piling on the sandwiches.


A little steamed cabbage a small pile of corned beef and spicy mustard du jour. We are using Plochmans today and it has a nice rich mustardy flavor that complements the sandwich perfectly.




One sandwich after another like a sandwich eating contest.



I eat three usually and by the third one they are pretty much thrown together.



All washed down with a fresh home brewed Blonde Ale, a little cloudy, a little strong and way too good. I love being "Irish" this time of year!

We went to Brooklyn, but we didnt just go to Brooklyn we went to Red Hook but we didnt just go to Red Hook we went to Baked because Dawn said it was cool and we have been to Red Hook many times before, even though its confusing to get there, to visit the soccer taco trucks in the summer, but I cant remember any of the 'words' I used and I cant find them in my archives.......
Dawns blog is Vanilla Sugar, but I didnt take any notes with me (thats why we were lost for 15 minutes) so when we finally got there........

I got her blog name wrong and had to leave that out of the YouTube. Remember, I didnt take notes? Well as a refresher - and if you want to take notes, now is a good time - I did not take any notes with me, thats why we got lost for 15 minutes.

word world

Blogging is a word world as well as a visual world so when people post a picture the picture usually has a meaning and when people use words those words, obviously, have meaning too, and I am the first one on the double entendre bandwagon so I am quite lenient, but what do you think when you read something and the writer seems to not care about the obvious mistakes? Typos are one thing and if you cant spell that's another and even punctuation can be lax but what about blatantly getting it wrong? I recently was sent a letter by a friend and rather than paraphrase it for you I will post it:

Hello, everyone

Next week, Wednesday the 18th the Education Committee will be hosting a Thank You event for all of you that helped out with the Community Survey. This was a month long project and we are very grateful and happy with the effort.

So please come and help us celebrate the completion of the surveying at the Sawmill Lofts on Bellamah and 19th St at 6:00pm. The committee members will bring the main on trays and the theme will be Our Favorite Family Recipes (should be interesting)!

Did you pick up on the 'main on trays' ? This is a winner.


The other day I was reading a blog and the writer used the term "little own" instead of the correct "let alone" as in "I dont want to go out in the cold little own play in the snow" now this isnt the exact sentence but it is similar to how the phrase was used -this stopped me dead in my tracks. Typically this is the same type of person that isnt sure when to use 'effect' versus 'affect' and I know because I have seen them do it. Colloquialisms are one thing like using y'all instead of you all or youse guys but to outright get the phrase wrong? Thoughts? Come on, I just want you to write gooder thats all!



I had to almost memorize this when I was in college, do people still use it?

But if you want some you can enter a comment at this location and you just might get some. You can still leave comments here, who knows maybe some of your morals might rub off on me. I forage for mushrooms from late April up until November and I have yet to find any of these gems, I have heard of locations but they are shrouded in secrecy, so this seems like a viable alternative.

its a wrap

Bacon wrap that is. If you are ever unsure of what to do in life, in cooking, in anything at all, a wise old guru once told me - wrap it in bacon. Its true once you add bacon it seems like the planets align, Mercury is in Jupiter, the moon gets full, your biorhythms are now keeping the beat, flowers smell prettier and the list goes on and on.



Ever wonder what a kid eats? Well my kid eats good.



This is his salad after he has scarfed a few bites and then 'let me' take a picture of it. (he insists I take pictures of his food, he has me take pictures of his bowl of cereal)



Here he waits for his dinner while nibbling on an asparagus and 'doing something' on his laptop.
