flan flunky
I cant even make a decent flan, look at it all 'stiff' and all - hardly creamy! I am struggling over here lately. Not going to San Francisco for the foodbuzz thing, Mexico plans have changed, Bananas going, me and the little dog are staying here- creativity and mojo trickles by like a mud river. Happiness and glee are masks we can buy at the 99 cent store. I am posting my knife bag! Does that not cry out? The time change, the darkness it gets to me - imagine if I lived in a more northern region - no dont imagine that. Tucking in and watching movies is not for me but thats what you do in the winter - you hibernate - you play cards. Anyway, the flan tasted good but next time it will be better! Twenty-six - you see that number I am 26 away from 1000 - I think that is getting to me I want it to be over but for it to be over I have to either post quality posts or 'posts' - seems like 'posts' is winning.

I think it's time for a drink....
I tried a bacon cheddar horseradish spread(with a cream cheese base) and it would have been perfect, but I got cute and added liquid smoke that was old and bitter..repaired with Molasses! They were OK.. I know what you mean- menus around here are getting a rotation- and I hate that!
Don't worry about it too much. You'll get there. Just go with the flow. Besides, that flan looks damn tasty from my point of view.
ps. Thanks for the poaching trick. Hopefully next time I make them I'll get the technique down.
Living in 'a more northern region', I can totally relate to the blah-ness that settles in during this time of year. Your posts are never just 'posts' - even this gets me thinking about my own mood.
I'm going to make the recipe that I didn't submit to foodbuz's Bertolli scholarship contest (the one where the winners got their travel expenses paid to attend the fest). Hoping it will keep me from turning all Jack Nicholson/The Shining crazy on hubs and dog!
You never give up, don't you? ;-) This is a nice flan....good enough.
3 years ago, I went to Florida in early December to arrange for my father's final days. All I could say when I called home was, "It's after 4:20PM and it's not dark! Still freakin' cold, but not dark!"
Write when you feel like it. And I'll take your flan any time; I've never been brave enough to try one.
Make it a double.
I vote for the drink! It sure looks tasty but I saw on the Iron Chef re: "curdled" flan. They are so snotty on that show sometimes! I would eat your flan anytime!
I like your flan....perhaps a drink would help? I'm currently enjoying a gin and tonic...should I mix you up one?
When patients start getting frustrated in physical therapy, I always try to remind them of how far they have come since their first treatment. It puts it all in perspective for them.
Look back on all your work and what you have accomplished. 974 posts? I haven't even broken 100. And your food is so full of heart. I'd be hard pressed to think up something to post too! You've done just about everything!!! :) Hang in there. This too shall pass....
*scratching head*
I'm totally blur....
A flan is a flan. Stop worrying.Have a happy weekend.
I would eat that flan with a smile and then head back off to my den! :D
It seriously sucks that FB doesn't have a east coast branch...I have been lobbying for one! About the flan..did you try a hot water bath...it helps with eveness. I will have to try to make one..never have. Your flan has personality!
That flan looks absolutely delicious!!!!!!
I feel your pain. Moving from California to New England showed me that you never know what you have until it is gone. Namely....SUN.
Take a breath. Ugly flan isn't the end of the world. Mojo sometimes just eludes us for a day or two.
Keep on with the posts and the cooking!
Don't worry about being left behind with the FB thing. Lots of us were. They are just making it sound fun to torture us.
Sometimes what's more important is that it tastes good. I love flan. I'd take a bite of yours.
Haha. Agree with Dawn.
I actually think the flan looks good in the photo.
I am alittle down too. My husband has been in Mexico (Cabo) and sending pics of his beautiful resort! He has a huge job in Gainesville..so we sold our house. NOW, I am stuck in a HOTEL because the job is not ready yet. SOOOO I have two kids stuck in a hotel TRYING to be creative with my meals. LOL. Sorry....But you started it. LOL.
I do feel a lot better now!!
I think it's a funky flan -- and I like funky.
Aw, cheer up. I would gobble it with gusto...because surely it's what's on the inside that counts ;) ps...I liked your tool post.
I have a delicious flan recipe that has been passed down from a friend. I'm of filipino descent and flan is HUGE there. My mom and all my relatives love it when I come over to a family party bearing this dish! It's all about the egg yolks. I'll hopefully post my recipe soon. But hang in there!
Oh no, not the kitchen slump! The getting dark early thing is a killer. But, if I had a torch like the one I see below, I'd slowly brown and toast my way through it.;)
I'm sorry to hear you aren't going to Mexico or California :(
The darkness gets to me, too...but I do enjoy all the holiday themed beer and coffee. Does that make sense?
99 cent masks are the way to go.
Sorry you weren't feeling so hot there. SF would've been even better with you, but there's always next year. Hope things are looking better now.
I think the flan looks wonderful. When my flan turns out all bubbly, weird and slighty crunchy I see it as a tricky treasuer...much more "mouth feel", more interesting than smooth perfect flan!
And I have make some really strange flan.
Wow, that comment was full of spelling errors! Where's spell checker when you need it.
Cool blog, by the way.
