Thanksgiving Menu 2010

Thanksgiving is traditional enough as it is - I make all the same traditional things but I do them all a little different year after year. I pull out all the stops I purge the kitchen cabinets, the bathroom cabinets and I even go through the glove box of my car to make sure there isnt some secret little thing I was saving to include in the Thanksgiving meal. Take the Mezze maniche for example - pasta as big as your thumb - they are going into a lobster mac and cheese like you've never had before - forget regular lobster mac and cheese - this is gonna' blow that out of the water!

Here is the menu:

14 pound Roast turkey brined for 24 hours in powdered dried mandarin orange peel and juniper berries with rosemary (I prefer smaller birds - I think they are juicier)

Mezzemaniche con l'aragosta ed il formaggio (lobster mac and cheese)

Roasted butternut squash and lobster bisque

Bacon wrapped plantains courtesy of my friend Cynthia at tastes like home

Cornbread and italian sausage with giblets stuffing (dressing)

Giblet gravy
stock made, waiting on the fond

Truffled mashed potatoes

Individual baked sweet potatoes with marshmallows

Collard greens

Pumpkin pie

Coconut panna cotta or a coconut cheesecake (to be determined)
Edit: Made them both and they are chilling

....and anything else I think of at the last minute....

Last year I made a molten chocolate pumpkin pie - absolutely delicious! HAPPY THANKSGIVING everyone - what especially different thing are you doing this year?

Your menu sounds divine. The lobster mac and cheese is worth the trip to NY. What time should I arrive?

I can easily get to the city that day if you want a visitor :) All that food sounds amazing. All I ask is that you add some sort of liquor drink to that menu. What is family time without drinking? Or is that just in my family..... ;)

Wow! Everything sounds so good. I'm cooking the basic Thanksgiving dinner. I did get a good recipe for a cranberry salad I'm going to try. Now that my kids are grown and go to their in-laws too... I don't cook as much.. since they're eating basically 2 meals. It's kind of nice though because they help by bringing side dishes and desserts. My Handyman makes a killer dressing.

Over the top, Dog! I'm loving the lobster mac & cheese. Please send your recipe? (pretty please??) Happy Thanksgiving!

Happy Thanksgiving, Dog! Glad to see you posting your menu, for once!

I'm getting two birds from a local farm. My girls are fetching them this afternoon. They'd better be great for the price they're fetching!

Love the menu; as we determined, great minds think alike. Can't wait to see he mac 'n cheese. Just got my truffles today. BTW, I agree, using ~ 14 pound bird. I hope people do not think we conspired our menus!

I did not commiserate with Doc on the creation of my menu - while our menus seem similar they are very different that a good enough disclaimer?

Wow, just wow! Um, can I come to your house for the holiday?? The most creative I'm getting is using swiss chard in the stuffing ;), but hey it's my first year hosting, first year doing the bird so I'm playing it safe. Happy Thanksgiving!
