high ate us
Laptop is home and safe - it was a 'no brainer' problem but I didnt want to risk inflicting more damage. I was reading things about 'logic' and 'inverter' boards so I opted for caution and I paid someone $60 to do something I could have done myself, next time I would probably do the same. Its easier to blame some professional for screwing up your computer than it is to blame yourself.
Donna over at my tasty treasures made white castle burgers a few days ago and the technique and process seemed pretty cool to me. I did all the things I would never do. I dont use packaged things to get flavors when real foods work better but I used some dried burger spice mix and a packet of french onion soup - as per the instructions.
I put the blob of peanut butter and spread it out in a cookie sheet.
I covered it in diced onions to get that true White Castle flavor. It came out of the oven, I tasted it and threw it away, sorry Donna, it was the grossest thing I had ever eaten called 'burger.' Maybe with out the peanut butter, maybe without the onion soup mix - who knows but I wont be trying this again. I should have made a tiny little sample so I wouldnt have had to waste a pound of beef - the cats liked it. Sorry, I feel so mean but at least I stepped out of my comfort zone - way out of my comfort zone. Dont take my word for it, try it yourself, it may be I have a muted palate.

ICK! The Pnut butter doesn't even sound good in a burger. I've never had a white castle either. If I'm going to eat a burger I was a big juicy tasty one! I don't like the fancy ones. I just want a slice of fresh tomato, a tiny slice of onion and occasionally some cheese.
You didn't step out of your zone, you left the planet. You must have sensed something different, when you spread it out in that pan.
peanut butter?! *vomit*
i dont like white castle either but ew ew ew.
Peanut butter with beef? That is the gross-est thing I've ever heard. Glad to see you back, now go whip up something yummy!
Peanut butter?! Why???
Ya know, I've never had a White Castle ... and I'm not encouraged to try making them after reading this either. Blech.
Glad to hear you're back in business though. Happy weekend!
Wow, bummer. It really does sound pretty gross. Peanut butter? Really?
Yay! You got your computer back, and in turn we got you back...very exciting.
Sorry that white castle recipe didn't turn out for ya...you win some, you lose some. What can you do?
At least the cats got a tasty dish out of it.
I wouldn't have made it because I can't stand White Castle burgers. I tried them once and never again! I also don't like Krystal burgers, either.
You should have bought a WC burger before attempting this, and you wouldn't have. But that would have been the easy way! ;-)
I just like pickles and mustard on mine and sometimes a slice of fresh tomato.
I am so proud of you stepping out of your comfort zone! I will eat fast food burgers/food but I don't compare it to fresh cooked food. It's kind of like eating veggie burgers- they don't taste so good if you keep expecting them to be anything like hamburgers. Altho my sister has a homemade mushroom veggie burger recipe that she tried and said was okay.
mish: red flags went up all over the place but I ignored them
micky-t: I tried to enter the proletariat world for a minute there
healthy: nuff' said
snugs: I know, it screamed error, 'danger sill robinson, danger'
diva: I have had them once and that was enough
kitt: binder I guess....
harmony: yup, its good to be back
joy: beef, salt, pepper, mustard, mayo, onion, tomato, lettuce and cheese...
starr: see, I am not that narrow minded....
Doggy, welcome back!
I've never had a white castle either. In LA it's all about the In-N-Out burger. Now that's a one you gotta try. But PB??? I remember seeing something of a PB burger on Diners, Drive-Ins, & Dives. Don't think I'll be trying that recipe anytime soon.
I don't like White Castle on a good day- but I do like Donna!
white castle burgers, I think they put minced onions (almost to the point of liquid form) in their beef mixture, celery salt, and salt & pepper.
I know they make them super thin and fry in veggie oil, not butter. Oh well. Do what you love with burgers, that's my philosophy.
jenn: I hear all about the in-n-out burger - in fact I think I had one eons ago...
buff: I like Donna too and I liked the idea of these burgers......
dawn: thats right - whatever floats your boat....
sorry these didn't turn out for you. i'm not a huge white castle fan, so i can understand. anyway, thanks for your comment on my blog! so glad it led me to yours. and now that your computer problems are fixed, i can't wait to keep following!
Not a fan of White Castle... but way to step out of your comfort zone.
My guess is that it is the beers between each step that makes the burgers taste so good :-)
elyse: I guess it woulod help if I like white castles huh?
cg the foodie: 'the beer factor' something I didnt add into my equation...very astute
I haven't had a "rat burger" in years. Those little square burgers with minced onions were always our midnight munchies back in the day after a night of drinking (80's!!).
OK, number one, you did not follow my brother in laws directions...so I dont expect you would have liked them
OK, number two, I admire you stepping out of your box..crawl back in now where its safe and cozy.
OK, number 3, no need to apologize, I appreciate honesty
OK, number 4, my husband thanks you for my public humility it turns me on so
Ok number 5, I do like you too and buffalo dick, he's my pal
OK, number 6, parking lot , 10 O'Clock, be there.
dude...
I wouldn't eat a REGULAR white castle burger. Those are gut bombs, for sure!
