fried fish

I see that sign anywhere and I drool, if it says fried oysters or oyster po' boys I drool even more. There used to be a fish market here that made the best fried seafood sandwiches, the fried fish was a standard and very good but the fried oysters were fat and briney and only for the seasoned and then during soft shell crab season you could get a sandwich with two fat crabs for less than 5 bucks. I guess you could call that 'the good ol' days.' NYC is changing so fast, there is no such thing as 'the mom and pop' place anymore, and if there is I dont know about them. There was once this little italian place on houston and mcdougal that only made sandwiches with italian meats and fresh 'bufula muzzerel' as the guy would say, his grandmother was always sitting in a chair near the fan...this place is also gone. What are people going to say in 10 years? "hey I used to go to this place where you could get a grilled cheese for only ten bucks"....

That looks like a crispy fishyness!
A bit more fancy than my lunch I must say! mine was crushed mackerel in tomatosauce on a couple of chrisp bread, a tomatoe and an orange. So it was fyll of omega 3 and fishyness too.. and very nice. If you send over some chili, I'll send you a sample. (its tinned, do you think it'll pass custom?)

You know, I have tried so hard to like seafood, but the ONLY ones I like are Salmon and Tilapia, and I can only eat them blackend, except of course for Salmon patties!

bina: so far so good...maybe some blackened shrimp will be next on your menu...if the blackened is the method - go for it!

i agree mom & pops are becoming extinct. it's my dream to own a diner where I'm the cook the waitress etc. in the mountains. I went to a place (i used to work for the owners here recent)$16.95 for a prime rib french dip??? and it was not very good..AT ALL and I told them what I thought. I'll travel the distance to downtown where they make the best and charge I think 7 or $8.
Love fried anything. Was this the first lunch of summer with the kiddo?

This blog is not what I need while on my Biggest Loser challenge but I can't help myself. The food looks and sounds delicious. I am so into fish, fried or raw. LOVE me my seafood.
