These guys are random plants that pop up in my window boxes from my living green'composting.'
Because tomatofest is already taken I will be having a tomatostravaganza instead. I ordered some seeds from these guys a couple weeks ago and forgot about it until they arrived. I only purchased what was in the sale area and I forgot for the most part.
Well my seeds arrived, all in the same kind of package save for their name typed on a label on the outside. I have a veritable hot bed of porn stars and gladiators that will be popping up in my garden. With names like Lerica Orange, Black Prince, Nyagous, Eva Purple Ball, Dr. Wyche’s Yellow, Cream Sausage, Early Wonder, Carbon, and last but not least - Black Cherry.
If you dont need a cold shower after reading those names then you need to get yourself checked. I cant wait till Fall to see if there will be any fruits from my labor.

my colleagues think I am crazy, just can't stop laughing.......
Chris, I definitely need a shower and most of the names were new to me except a few... For a change this time I took out chillies for my garden ;) me too waiting for fall to see the results...
My cherry tomatoes are sprouting! I am going to plant them soon. Should I wait for the new compost to break down??
kennyt: thats hilarious..I wish I could see you and them
ramya: chilies sound great, what kind did you plant?
merm: churn it up in the old soil and plant them now...
We're planting some of the purple ones too! I cannot wait to salt 'em and devour.
(fans self)
Those are some spicy names!
I know what you're talking about, as I spend a lot of time in the same ozone as you! We are the "Lost Planet Airmen" of cooking! Where's Commander Cody...
Oh so many varieties! Lovely! I was unaware of those..feels like I need a shower too. Hoping all goes well and that you will be able to enjoy the fruits of your labour :)
omg...You're too funny! Although, those names are hilarious. But it's going to be exciting to see them start to sprout.
Can't wait to see the results!!
If they do turn out - amazing, and if they don't you can advertise spending your spring and summer with a bunch of porn stars. Either way - win/win.
I don't know if I'll ever be a gardener. Playing in the dirt is so not me. But I love to watch others garden? LOL
very cool! We just put our seedlings in the ground--an exciting time :)
hahahahaha
nice I will have to check out that place. My tomatoes go in this weekend but they are boring: cherry, roma, and brandywine. I tried experimenting with a lot of different varieties and always used the heck out of those 3.
Where exactly is your garden? Can't wait for luscious tomatoes and tomato sandwiches!
Real: me too - straight from the vine!
buff: whooooosh - did you hear that? straight over my head...
pooja: we shall see if I get more than a tomato or two
jenn: I didnt realize the names until I was typing up the labels for my little sprouter...
giz: yup me, carbon and black cherry
dawn: is that henny penny or chicken lickin'
tavolini: it is an exciting time!
jeff: I will use any tomato I can get my hands on
pinknest: community garden right here in the lower east side!
you've been stalking Donna for too long :)
You do it to me, I return the favor! Creativity and humor are joined at the hip! When you get serious, and stop having fun, you lose the joy, that is your strength..
Don't forget the all natural all organic worm poop helping the environment..one worm at a time...
Cream Sausage?! My tomatoes have boring ass names like Mary and Fred...
snugs: oh dang - you mean something 'rubbed off' on me?
buff: I hear you now!
justtelling: I need more worms!
jill: I almost wanted to hide the packages - I was surprised they didnt arrive in brown wrapper!
ha ha ha...I'm so jealous! We just moved and I don't know what's in our ground, yet so I probably won't have a veggie garden this year :( Hmmmm, patio tomatoes, maybe.
nice!! I don't have the patience for seeds, but I plan on picking up some small plants this weekend. I can't wait! I did my herbs last weekend and they're already doing fantastically!
I have a bunch of different varieties to plant this year. I just adore tomatoes! Some yellow, some pink, some plain old red. Just can't wait for those!
Wow! That is a lot of tomato seeds!
No one told us you could grow tomatoes in an egg carton!
girli: dont be that jealous I still live in NYC - I will need to find some real dirt for these at some point
healthy: it is still easier and cheaper for me to buy tomatoes at the farmers market...but hey...
marjie: you should check out the website at tomatofest - they have good prices and they give a lot of seeds in the pack
bina: even more than you can see
duo: its not easy being green - isnt that what Kermit said - the carton is only for starting them and you have to use the pulp one.
Where ON EARTH did you find these tomatoes? I have never heard of them. But, oh, how fun it would be to see them grow and bear fruits. You need to show us the pictures of the tomatoes after they've been harvested.
Off to the shower ...
those names are funky! I can't wait to see the results!
So many different varieties of tomatoes with cool names! Can't wait to see the results!
Very cool! I so want a garden now! Can't wait to see who pops up at harvest time. Then what are you going to do with all those babies?
leela: I googled 'heirloom tomatoes' and this is what I got....it worked me up
burp: caught me by surprise...
5 star: the darker ones and the nyagous are from colder climates - I am experimenting
jamie: one bridge at a time - but I will probably want a BLT of some sort.
mmmm...love fresh tomato...also love the names! those are hilarious :)
This is quite the turn on ;)
Eva Purple Balls?????
ok, now that I want to see!
No tomatoes in my Jersey garden this year, the little furry squirrels stole them all last summer.
You just can't beat homegrown cherry tomatoes. Love the names.
where do you grow your tomatoes city boy?
That is a lot of tomatoes!!! I have a garden and I don't grow that many. Your going to be in tomato wonderland!
Wow. You've got quite the spread here.
Donna "Grows her own" 'Maters as well. Usually of the "Better-Boy" variety.
All we can grow down here is chilis!
Is it hot in here or is it just your tomatoes? Does that sound as dirty as I'd hoped it would? ;)
Tell you what, I'm going to be one jealous Diva come August and September. May your crop be plentiful!
Who comes up with these names? I guess a bunch of out of work porn stars huh? Talk about a career adjustment form bright lights to naming tomato seeds!
Can;t wait to see how your garden grows!
Love those names. Can't wait to see what the tomatoes look like!
You need some cucumbers with those tomato names.
So can I expect to see your stall at the Farmer's Market during Fall?Tomatoes, seeds, sauces et al?
I should actually do a post about how I got my ass kicked by some pornographic tomatoes or otherwise known as - that time the six foot six (barefoot) drag queen raked 'her' heels down my leg because I kept calling 'him' well - him.
I brought a tomato from Greece last September, and now there is little green tomatoplants growing by my kitchen window! I love Greek tomatoes! Tomorrow I'm going to Greece again, and eat a lot of them, I hope!
Wow...I know I can't do that. My plants always die for some reason.
I would pick Black Prince.
