chicks please

How do you say it- is it ceci, garbanzo, chana or do say chickpea? No matter to me as long as they are packed with flavor.

I have had them baked till crispy and you could eat them like a salted nut. One time I had them fried and they were just as crunchy and delicious. You totally have to put oil or salt or chiles or seasonings on them because they are the taxicabs of flavor, you tell them where you want to go and they take you there, (hopefully its not like a real cab and you get there quickly).

These boys took a minute to simmer down but once they did they were all kinds of manageable. We had these fellers with probably the worst poori you had ever seen, in fact it was so bad it was not even a bad sopaipilla, yup no 'puff' factor at all -dead fried bread - it should be called.

good poori

bad poori

(there is no picture of bad poori, no one takes pictures of bad food - let alone poori)
no, wait - I will.
I will take pictures of bad food....
I just got an idea...I am going to do a post now and again called 'outakes' - original I know and when I think of the cooler word to describe all the food you dont see - oh I know - I'll call it 'The Cutting Room Floor' thats perfect. The cutting room floor presents ....

Here is an example of The Cutting Room Floor' this was made days ago but didnt make the cut. Chipotle chicken skewers with a 'crushed' potato and some curried artichoke hearts. Very nutritous but hardly the best 'layout' dont you think?

Thoughts?

I say chickpeas and I'll have them souped, stewed, mushed, hot, cold and just about any way you can think of. They are that good.

No you are a taxicab of flavor DB!

Love the chipeas and the poori (I would love to know how you made those). Do you take the pictures of the "outtakes"? I now wish I had been taking pictures of mine as I was just telling Chef E how I'd like to do a post on my top 10 kitchen disasters someday but of course it would be better if I had pictures.

The poori, is it crispy? I've never seen or tasted it! But the chick peas, I do like them! (peas for chicks)

If this is Indian food, what are Indian tacos?

The photo you didn't like wasn't bad at all!

Unfortunately for me, a chickpea by any other name causes hives. TMI - sorry.

When I fail in the kitchen, I fail spectacularly but I'm usually too embarrassed to record it for posterity.

Yum on all of this, so you have had poni puri? My clients makes it every now and then, it is an acquired taste...I found this site you should go look at, cracked me up Spam Musubi, and his site is called 'Eat At Joes' on foodbuzz.com

Since my client is Indian, I so love this food! Spicy is my middle name...not Saucy, lol

daily: thats the spirit...

starrlife: well thank you there starr

5 star: outtakes happen along side the 'intakes' ...

anette: it is a sofft bread that has been fried and it puffs up like a pillow

ap: if six is half a dozen and 18 is a dozen and a half then what is 144?

buff: I hear you but it was not up to my 'ideals' I took a couple shots and felt no inspiration from the items other than a desire to eat them.

tangled: I fail regularly and have documented it the same as non failures....good pictures of bad food or is it bad pictures of good food?

beth: put all your favorite ceci ingredients in the blender - mush it up and you should end up with hummus that is not blah!

E: I know about spam musubi- it should be called the 'national food of hawaii' and they should put it on the flag... I have never had PaniPuri but I will now try and make it....

Yay! Even Doggy makes homely (as opposed to homey) food sometimes!

is there someone on here with the name of buffalo dick? too cool
on to the dish...it rocks. I too love those roasted curry chickpea's. in fact, last time I was in nyc visiting friends at st. marks, there was this place that had the best roasted chickpea's saturated in curry. god that was good. I've never made poori...was it hard?

shoot--my intakes look better than that outtake!!

In Morocco, you could buy a paper cone full of salted chickpeas for equivalent of pennies. I lived off of those, the fresh bread and the olives with pits. For a month ;)

yet I'm slightly confused--the poori is a kind of frybread, right? What's the garbanzo dish?

Stacey Snacks said...

I say ceci, but you can call them garbanzos if you like!

I just had a friend tell me today about that hawaii spam thing and did not put two and two together on that one...live and learn eh?

"they are the taxicabs of flavor, you tell them where you want to go and they take you there" ~ I love this! It's the perfect explanation..

And? Your outtake looks good to me...but I have never had a successful photo of any of my food. SO maybe I don't know a thing...*shrugs*
