knows it all

First off this guy is THE authority on all things mushroom in my opinion, second the guy I go mushroom hunting with knows this guy (I have never met him) and thirdly this guy has a club in New York that I keep wanting to join but I hate clubs. I have told my mushroom buddy for two years now 'yeah, yeah I'll send the thing in' one day I might join. I have been into edible wild mushrooms since I was a kid, my grandmother taught me about them, so there is no reason I shouldnt join.

Edit: My grandmother taught me about EDIBLE wild mushrooms not the funny ones. I have not spent a lifetime partaking in mind altering substances - it isnt worth it!

Gary Lincoff knows mushrooms, he is the author of the Audubon book for petes sake, plus many others - there will be a documentary coming out soon - here is an excerpt:

I am in NO WAY promoting 'magic mushrooms' it is just a nice little story.

I'll stick to the two I know- Morels, and "stumpers"...

I had no idea there was an authority in the shroom world. See I learn something new every time I come here.

You have to join the club. Or maybe you're already secretly in it. and teasing us that you aren't.

buff: just like the buffalo to throw something regional in there - what the heck is a stumper - an oyster mushroom?

jenn: I feel like I am a member but I am not - members get invited to 'secret' foraging spots

mushroom hunting and a mushroom authority. I swear I learn something new almost every other day.

Well, you don't really write as if you've partaken of all that many magic mushrooms. Could be a different story, in real life, of course. Maybe Grandma was a real hoot way before it became popular!

dawn: there are so many tasty edible wild varieties out there - you might be surprised.

marjie: I have not been a 'user' if thats what you are saying - notice I never use the word 'shrooms' - I dont think my grandmother was getting high but who knows I was just a kid.

Did he ever come off that trip? You are giving me the biggest laugh of my day!

But seriously, you seem to know a lot about mushrooms already. You should join the club, maybe you'll teach them a thing or two.

I meant no insult or disrespect, Dog. Your grandmother must have been a wonderful lady to take the time to teach you about finding edible food in the wild. In a refrigerator is as wild as my grandmother's food ever got!

And I've seen too much evidence of people ruining their lives with mind altering substances, legal or not. I wouldn't waste my time visiting with such a person.

Wow! You bet it's a nice story, I've heard it before from three seperate friends a long time ago. They experimented taking large doses of hallucinogens. They each and everyone of them.....had to "choose" to go back to earth.
I also know one guy who never did come back mentally.

My grandfather hunted for mushrooms also....he would go out with his knife at dawn to certain forest preserves around the city of Chicago and come home with small black capped mushrooms plus some kind of clump mushroom which he called sheephead.

He would bring them down into the basement and toss them into a huge deep sink we had down there and fill the sink with water. My job was to use my little hands and swish them around so all the dirt would fall off. Unfortunately sitting in the water made them rather limp and then my grandmother put them in pots and cooked them till they were mushy. Not very appetizing....they often froze them in bags and brought them out to add to soups or stews. I don't think anyone thought about handling them delicately....or frying them in butter....it was an old country/old world...boil the hell out of them type recipe.

Despite that....there was something grand about the whole adventure....

I don't know nothin' 'bout findin' no mushrooms, Miss Scarlet!

Went up North Sat.- stores advertising "Will buy Morels- top price paid"... They are really late this year... "stumpers" are small, clump-like mushrooms- kinda slimy, flavor is mild...

I love wild mushrooms and my grandma taught me how to hunt for them too. I was getting weird looks from people when they found out I went mushroom hunting last weekend. Heck pretty sure I am going to get called downstairs to pee in a cup.

I am going to be googling the hell out of that guy all day long.

Oh yeah and for the record I found zero morels this weekend but my ex-girlfriend sent me pics of her parent's house and they pulling them out left and right.

No mushroom hunting for me, I think I'll just sit by and be impressed by your skills ;)
