train wreck
What did we say before we said 'its like watching a train wreck'? This 'watching a train wreck' phrase is so over used now but I am struggling to remember or even think of what we said before this. Its the same as 'thinking outside the box' what did we do before we 'thought outside of the box'? Pablo Picasso, obviously, was thinking outside the box when he was doing cubisim and what was 'thinking outside the box' called back then, because he was thinking inside the box while thinking outside the box so his box thinking went full circle, and was watching any of his antics like watching a train wreck?
This chicken soup is a train wreck, it has potatoes, yucca, chicken and ginger and you just cant take your eyes off of it let alone leave it alone. You want to watch and, in this case, taste every last drop of it.
I totally was thinking outside of the box when I decided to toss in some ginger. Tossing in the ginger, alone, is what made this soup what it is. The ginger took what would have been a simple chicken soup with potato up to new heights, it made it taste exotic, it turned it into the train wreck that it is.

That looks wonderful, save me some!!! BTW - Im back, well sort of - dont have a computer at the new place, so I will be stalking less frequently now......until I get another one..........xx
Sounds pretty good to me - I'm a big fan of the train wreck phrase, just haven't applied it to cooking yet...will have to try now!
It's a beautiful disaster ;-)
Looks great...and soup sounds terrific! Can you believe we hit 70 degrees here today? It's practically spring here.
You have to love soup with potatoes
I think I am rather fond of train wrecks.
Put me in a kitchen putting together a meal.....train wreck.
are you not talking to me anymore?
LOL at name... Around here, every church cook book has a "Shipwreck casserole"- hamburger, potatoes, etc... amazing how one ingredient, done right- makes all the difference!
mandi: stalk all you want....
hornsfan: I like sending mixed messages
harmony: let see it was 14 when I took the kid to school and it is supposed to warm up to 28
just telling: a potato makes broth into soup..
snugs: compelling
micky-t: that, I would like to see..
TK: what makes you say that?
buffalo: I have never heard of the shipwreck casserole and when I looked it up there are bazillions...
i like my chicken soup with lemon, parmesian and hot sauce. i'm kinda in a ginger phase right now so maybe i'll try that. mmm... ginger.
Ginger is such a great addition to soup - it makes the flavors seem clearer somehow.
Oh my God that looks delicious! I need to make some home made chicken soup. Maybe it will make me feel better and I NEVER thought of putting ginger in it. Thanks for the idea!
Good food is no train wreck. The loaf of banana bread into which I forgot to put the baking powder - now that was a train wreck!
hmm...pre train wreck would probably be something from Oregon Trail--broken axel or cholera or something. Perhaps a shipwreck if you lived on the coast?
Soup looks great--all the big chunks and drumsticks. Perfect time of year for a nice hot bowl of soup!
Hahaha, I think you're the first person to use the term "train wreck" in such a positive way. I want some of this wreck.
This reminds me of a pot of something my mom would make when we did not have much money...to stretch out for so many mouths...now I have a name for the memory...
fearless: it does and to me it gives it that east of the border flavor
bina? where did bina come from? I wish I could deliver you some of this soup!
marjie: no the EXTRA baking soda that a girlfriend once put into pancakes was a trainwreck....LOL..they felt like they foamed in your mouth....
tavolini: "its like watching cholera" or "its like sitting around waiting for the plague to end" is that what you mean?
jesse: I wish I could zip it off to you like those little canisters at some drive up banks...
Chef e: are you calling my yucca, ginger, chicken soup a 'big ol'pot of something' no offense but I doubt your mom made this...
Its freezing today. I could use a bowl of that. please?
You're hilarious! Gingery chicken potato soup sounds like a winning catastrophe!
Mmmm Hot soup on a cold day when you have a cold. Just what I need.
mo diva: you dont even know - the ginger knocks this outta the park!
duo: it is catastrophically delicious
spin: this should be called 'cold be gone' instead of 'a big ol' pot of something'
Probably something about horses.
that's one train wreck I would love to ride.....looks good Dog...as usual. Do you EVER mess up??? do you EVER make something that totally sucks?? ;)
Oh those big peaces of potatoes! Don't you just love the way they suck up the taste of the soup, just so slightly?
TBD: like 'look its a herd of wild horses' kind of thing?
beth: I could lie but I feel honesty is always best and the answer is no, I never mess up...I can not remember making something that sucks unless I go all the way back to when I was a kid....LOL
anette: it is nice how the potato does that and then there is the added sweet and starchy yucca root...
I'm sure it's good.
I totally agree with both of those terms - we need to make some new ones (although we'd probably just over use them as well).
It tasted good, but your right she was not as creative as we are, but looks the same :)
YUM! I recently discovered how good ginger is chicken soup, myself- there's a company in Seattle called Eat Local, and they put ginger *and cinnamon ni their's. I never would have thought of it, myself, but it's amazing. I keep a bottle of ginger juice in the fridge at all times- I love it in grapefruit juice, too!
Chicken soup with ginger sounds wonderful! I haven't cooked with yucca before, have to look into that.
Yucca and Potatoes in one pot together...its like a dream. Do you share your recipe or must we just dream of eating this food?
Since this article was written we've replaced the words, "train wreck" with, "Charlie Sheen."
