magical beans

A
yocote Morado beans are not beans you find everyday and I know because I look for unique things -everyday.

Back in the back of a little store on a side street in an obscure part of Queens I found a bin and in this bin were beans and those beans were these beans so I picked some up.

Ayocote Morado beans are supposed to be super tasty when cooked with a lot of garlic and wild mushrooms - does that not cry out for me?

I didnt know this little fact about garlic and mushrooms until I got them home and did a little research; I was struck by their size (like a big kidney bean) and their obviously purple (morado in spanish) color. I am showing them with a variety of background colors so that you can see that their purple color never fails. I am going to cook them up and let you know.

Funny ... as I was looking at that bowl of beans I was thinking what a wonderful color they were! I'm guessing they'll be just as tasty as they are beautiful!

You're getting all fancy with your backgrounds now!

Those beans look quite similar to scarlet runner beans, which are mottled purple and black. (Here are some nice photos.) Should be tasty!

dana: I have been struggling with a metaphor on this one and I come up dry. I think these beans will turn tan and not be as pretty as their first impression once they get wet.

kitt: if you only knew how low tech it really is.

Looking forward to seeing what you do with these. This is a new ingredient for me.

I have never seen beans like this (not that I have seen a lot of "different" type of food)that purple is radiant...I really hope the color stays with the bean!

honestly, I dig the blue background with LOTS of wooden table / and the beans and the orange background. I wouldn't think that would work out, but its very appealing.

So! Were the beans tasty or were they old? I'm betting that you probably found something quite good.

Those are beautiful beans! I just wanted to bury my hands in the bag of beans just to feel them! I'm very tactile, and beans are wonderful to touch! and the sound of it, very interesting! Don't get me started on the smell! And the color! (I know, I'm a bit weird, but why not be honest about it!)

That's a big dam bean! I hope it doesn't lose it's skin while cooking, like a kidney bean can...

Do you and Buf have photo studios in your kitchens? I've actually been cooking this weekend -- Muenster Seafood Square for a chick party this afternoon, key lime pie because, when I asked for lime juice, Old Dog brought home key limes, homemade apple pie for a writer's group meeting tomorrow night. Anyway, I actually photographed some of these things (always good to have evidence, just in case) but my pictures don't look nearly as good as yours. I'm thinking it's a) the lighting, b) the camera and c) the photographer!

I like the blue background...I think it'll make the beans taste better.

Those are beautiful beans, and will be curious what you do with them Dog...and I too was disappointed that my 'red' lentils turned yellow...I bought yellow the other day and lets hope they do not turn a weird color when I cook them :)

I think what I learned here was that....construction paper makes a great colored background.

tavolini: I saw your pizzas and forgot all about beans

anette: I like how beans feel too - they feel like gems when you let them sift through your hands

buffalo: they are supposed to retain their shape - we shall see

jeanne: just a little area with a cutting board - very low tech

beth: I think they absorbed some blue...

E: thats why I photographed them dry - I am certain they will not be as attractive cooked

SS: I want to order their Anasazi beans -

mick -t: you are actually not that far off...you are a good student

That color is gorgeous! Beans with mushrooms sounds like a great combination but I don't think I've had it before.
