cookies and cream

W
hat do you do when you have extra cookies, vanilla beans and heavy cream? You make ice cream and then you make ice cream sandwiches. Well thats what you do if you are me and I am you and we are we and we are all together or something like that and you want to be as big as a walrus. This is a little misleading because we are no where near walrus size around here in fact we are more like baby seals.

http://www.kitchencritic.co.uk/upload/2007/03/ice-cream-ball.jpg

I discovered a great way to make ice cream that is fun for kids and adults and it is similar to those ice cream balls that they sell. In fact I was doing this before this ball was invented. You get one coffee can that fits inside a larger can (the #10 can). You fill the smaller can with cream, vanilla, and sugar (I put egg yolks but it is against the law and the salmonella police will come and get you) seal it up real good with the lid and some duct tape and put it inside the larger can that you fill up with ice and rock salt (big chunky salt) and seal this can up. Now for the fun. Roll the can around for about 30 minutes, it will churn the cream making ice cream - really.

Freeze it up a little more for firmness and scoop and eat in your favorite way. No photos of this process because it is one of my secrets even though I explained it in detail.

oh wow--great idea with the cans! (My kitchen floor is slanted; I could just sit on the low side and keep rolling it up. Better than a boomerang!)

That cookie / ice cream sandwich looks HUGE. Was it quite delicious?

Pardon my french, but when I saw that cookie-double with ice cream my first thought was: You bastard!! I want that!

My mum said that when she was little, they made Ice cream like that, only salt and snow in a bucket, and a smaller container inside it. Worked like magic!

Looks great! I am going to have to try the "can" method in making ice cream!

I've been telling you how to cook the custard base in the microwave, to avoid extra dirty dishes, but go ahead and get yourself some salmonella, Dog! There is nothing like homemade ice cream, no matter how you want to serve it, and I never have anything but homemade whipped cream. Hubby's relatives say he's spoiled; he tells them not to be so lazy. Do you make your own chocolate sauce? I just figured that one out last weekend!

monica: thats what I like to hear!

jesse: I live on the dark side - I dont mind flirting with the law...

Christo Gonzales said...

tavolini: it would work perfect - so instead of rolling it from one to another you can get the job done - solo!

anette: if the chinese didnt invent ice cream I would totally think that you northerners would have...

harmony: its fun for the entire family....LOL

marjie: you are right - I need to remember to temper the yolks and then I wont be felonious monk over here

buff: thanks buddy!

TK: you are a butt scratcher - ick I cant picture you holding one of my delicious desserts!

TK: I'm holding all the cookies - keep that in mind!

duodishes: I didnt use the ball I used coffee cans....

So you finally figured out how to make the cookies thick in a muffin pan like mine?

Christo Gonzales said...

jeanne: I like the drooling

mish: It was a 'use up' situation to be sure

e: nope, wrong again... I made them the way I usually do - on a cookie sheet..the muffin thing was a 'cute' idea but thats as far as I go.
