going green

Meat isnt the only thing on the menu. I was a struggling vegetarian (or was that a closet carnivore) for a few years in college at that time when everyone experiments. I was looking for the me inside the me. No not really. In reality my gilrfriend at the time was hard core holistic and vegetarian so it only made sense to me to go 'her way' to make at home cooking easier. Her mom was the source behind this lifestyle and she had some pretty far out and bland recipes that I learned to embellish. While this soup is my own creation entirely I still feel it comes from that same place that me inside the me that I found oh so many years ago.

Fill up the blender with fresh green beans, two garlic cloves, half an onion peeled and the juice of half a lime, salt and pepper and of course water.

Five minutes later it should be so smooth, not quite whirled peas but close enough.

In the pot it goes that had some onions, garlic, rosemary and split peas in a nice saute. Simmer until everything is tender and then zap it with the immersion blender to make sure its smooth.

I then dolloped a little creme fraiche, some nutrional yeast, some sea salt granules and black pepper. Serve with crusty bread. Vegetarian delight.

I do like the look of that! Soup warms our hearts when its wintertime! And peas, I love them! Pea-soup from dried green peas, with thyme, onion, carrots thats very nice too, but my family either don't like it or like it but get all "blown up".

That looks so yummy... I feel bad for my husband, who loves meat, because I don't really care for it. I am a reformed vegan and tend towards the green and veggie matter... poor guy is by default eating a fairly veggie diet... I feel bad for carnivores who fall for the vegetarians... as amends I did rock a La Crouset cooked pot roast last weekend.... I adore soups and I think I will riff of this one tomorrow...

i've been in such a soup mood lately. thank you for this recipe. you know what they say- "visualize whirled peas!" :)
i'm basically veggie, and married to a carnivore. he tolerates those protein crumble things that boca & morningstar farms makes. thank god. i put those in everything.
