presto its pesto
Pesto is one of those things I make near the end of the season when I want to hold on to summer produce for as long as I can. Basil is starting to flower in gardens all over the place right now signaling an end to its bounty. I keep it simple. Olive oil, salt, pepper, lime juice and garlic. No cheese and no nuts. Keeping out the protein insures that it will last longer - I think! The tomato pesto I keep in a jar of olive oil out of direct light - the basil pesto I freeze.
I also like sun dried tomatoes and they make a fantastic pesto as well.
Pasta and pesto with a little carne molido and a few cheeses - simple, satisfying and scrumptious - the threes 'S's of goodness!

I love pesto...but I also adore cheese. I might miss it.
The sundried tomato pesto is beautiful.
It's just too bad *you* aren't as nice as your pestos look. It ruins it for me knowing what kind of ugly person is behind the beautiful food.
jill: why? are you giving up cheese?
doggy.bloggy.WTF: but arent 'you' 'me'? I cant wait till you cross over the line.....
mmmmmmm pesto! I've got the pine nuts and the nice bottle of olive oil waiting for our little basil plants.
(Looks like you have a hell of a new blog fan.)
There's nothing a like a really good pesto to brighten up the day. I like to spread a generous helping on some warm crusty bread.
my basil didn't make it til June, I will have to wait a few more months to replant or buy fresh basil which I can not justify at $3.99 a pkg.
I think DB WTF/Jgrund needs anger mgmt or medication..he is one of those that could go postal on us doggy, but yes, you are a god here!
I've never had pesto. I think my people would have a fit over green glop on their plates. And trust me, they would call it glop. I do not have an easy audience in my little corner of the world.
I'm craving that tomato pesto. Pasta addict right here ...
tavolini: mmmmm pesto is right....yeah my new fan - neato huh?
jenn: that sounds like a nice snack to have right about now
snugs: do you have two growing seasons? thats cool. yeah this person is obviously someone you dont want around sharp objects...
marjie: you have a tough sell going on thats for sure - mix the glop in before giving it to them then its just green flecks!
TW: the tomato one has the right amount of sweet, tart and tang
Pesto is the besto.
I couldn't agree with you more, I love sun-dried tomato type pesto. It is amazing on pizza.
Nice.
That looked "toney", and even the other big word- elegant...
this is just gorgeous, both of them, i love it!
My garden is getting away from me because it's time to do stuff with everything. Pesto sounds like another add to the list thing I need to do. I wonder if I can steal an ice cube tray from my husband to freeze it in.
Ah yes, the 3 S's... :P Looks delicious to me!!
I love pesto they are great on toasted bread too!
Your pesto look so yummie, I never made it at home in spite of having basil growing at home, will sure give a try :-)
I do love the simplicity of this dish. Delicious!
I have a purple opal basil bush out back that is screaming to let me know that if I don't hurry-up it is going to seed. Your blog post is inspiring me to get those beautiful leaves and do something yummy! The great thing about pesto is you can freeze it and use your bounty all year.
what's up with the dude d.b.wtf?
I don't like his tone.
I love the tomato pesto...looks so good, I could eat the whole dish of shells.......
Geez I hope that green is photoshoped and not the color of your kitchen walls....LOL>>> otherwise...mmmmmmm
no cheese in pesto? Say it isn't so! But that is one gorgeous pesto...I don't even think it'll keep that long in the fridge...I'll finish it by then!
Aaah! the simplicity of it, it's the best! I have pesto on my sandwich today at work, it's good, but probably the boring cousin of yours, since it's from a jar.
Basil and Tomato are both my fav pesto's too....especially the sundried one! nothin better than having a jar of homemade pesto ready!
I need to make a sundried tomato pesto - that sounds really good right now!
MMMMMMmmm..
Pasta with so much more sweet!!!
One major question here.
In this day and age of obesity and cholesterol, have you ever given thought to what all you're posting here?
Do you actually realize that you're enabling overeaters and high blood pressure cardiac kids the opportunity to put a proverbial gun to their heads with their finger on the trigger?
Or do you care?
Way to go Mr. Foodie wannabe.
How about you think over your content?

Do you actually realize that you're enabling overeaters and high blood pressure cardiac kids the opportunity to put a proverbial gun to their heads with their finger on the trigger?" Huh??? Isn't this a food blog for us to enjoy?? What, are you now cooking for school cafe's or something??? I guess it's flattering that this weirdo poster believes you have SO MUCH influence in the world that schools across the country and all types of people are reading your blog and getting all of their nutritional advice from you. way to go!!!
