pop chicken

Popchips sent me some chips to try out and I used some as a crust for chicken.

I am totally copying this food snob but still.. I used the barbeque flavor for these plump buddies and it worked out great. I marinated the chicken overnight in a chile lime rub then dusted them with seasoned flour and then coated them with crushed chips and baked them in a 350 F oven until golden and delicious.

The chicken came out great, moist, crunchy, tasty, everything you want in a good piece of bird. I am going to try the sea salt flavor as a crust for shrimp next. You know you dont have to make things with them they are tasty right out of the bag!

What a great idea! I've gotten samples of the PopChips in the past, too. But I usually inhale them right out of the bag. Alas, none leftover to cook with.

I've caught a glimpse of these at the store before (as I'm bypassing the healthier chip options for the deep fried goodness of puffy cheetos), great idea on a use for these!

Love the idea and the crunchy taste sounds fabulous!

Have you ever tried crushed chips in tuna casserole?

I may have to give this a try! (Hope it doesn't give Old Dog a heart attack to see me cooking.)

That looks really good!

mmm...looks good! I've never heard of pop chips. They look kind of airy--like munchos. Are they?

Haven't seen the product around here, but we try and stay out of that isle..Chip and dip means one whole bag, and one whole tub will be eaten in one sitting by my wife and I!

hate to even say this out loud, but have you ever added potato chips to your tuna salad. deliciously gross. Grossly delicious?

Carolyn Jung: they are a tasty chip..

hornsfan: cheetos are my favorite!

5 star: fried chicken in the oven, basically

ap: no, but I will!

jeanne: or maybe an 'attack' of a different sort....heeheee

TBD: shake and bake

tavolini: no not as airy as a muncho - dense and chip like but hard to explain

buff: a bag of chips is maybe 9 ounces unless you are buying the 'one pounders'.....

jessica: two votes for tuna - I will be trying this soon...

Looks like some nice crispy goodness, and that is a big piece of chicken!

Mmm! bet that chicken was tender inside. How would I solve my "not liking the chicken skin" issue, when all that goodness was stuck to it??

Christo Gonzales said...

lisaiscooking: I think its the angle - they werent that big...

anette: even if the skin is crispy?

Potato chip chicken is great.
I recently made pretzel chicken, pretty good too....just stay away from corn flake chicken.

Hmmm, that looks wonderful......you can add that to the menu for my visit!!! :)

stacey: I use the lime tostitos a lot as a crust for fish....

mandi: I hope you are making the list because I have lost track...

Popchips! They're addictive. And you feel not as bad about eating an entire bag...maybe. Good idea for the chicken!

Ok, I'm sure it was good. But I bet it would have been even without the chips.

And I'm with Buff. I have no control over that sort of thing. They'd NEVER make it to the recipe.

CE: three words: thanks a lot

duod: I only tasted one chip...I will be using them exclusively as an ingredient.....LOL

RLL: after a bag or two you dont mind coating the chicken....if you ever want to talk cheetos then I am all over that one- purely hand candy
