'nana nut

I eat a banana everyday, it is part of a diet plan that I adhere to for a healthy heart and since I eat so much of everything else so often I feel the banana does help. What doesnt count in my banana ritual is when I make something out of the banana, like bananas foster or in this case a banana nut bread. Somehow in my warped way I have determined that the banana has to be eaten straight from the peel in order for it to have its healing properties. Silly, I know.

Believe it or not this is the first time I have ever made banana nut bread and it is so good when it is fresh and hot and slathered in sweet creamery butter.

Banana Nut Bread
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup butter or margarine
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1/2 cup chopped pecans
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 3 soft, ripe bananas, mashed
Cream sugar and butter; add eggs, flour, soda, bananas, and chopped nuts. Pour banana bread batter into 1 greased and floured loaf pan; bake at 325° for about 1 hour and 15 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. This banana nut bread recipe makes 1 loaf.

I've made banana bread so many times I can almost make it without a recipe. The reason is that I feel the same way you do about eating a banana every day (from the peel). Sometimes I get too many or don't eat them daily, so I have to use them or throw them away. Your banana bread looks good (of course).

What in the world is going on? Doggy is voluntarily posting a recipe? The bread looks wonderful but I don't like bananas or banana bread- no offense intended to your banana- they just make me burb, however I love cucumbers and they don't do that to me :)

This looks very yummy. I like banana nut bread. I've actually been looking for a simple recipe. I may just have to try this.

looking good!

I like it with chocolate chips, too. I feel the same way about eating some fruit every day. I eat vegetables without thinking of it, but with fruit I have to remind myself.

Don't tell anyone, but bananas are my kryptonite.
Now you know.

5 star: I broke down and posted instructions - I do that sometimes

buff: I cant see how it can be much different

tavolini: its like drinking water in the winter - the effort has to be there

stacey: they make you weak?

I love banana nut bread...sometimes I like to smear on some cocoa hazlenut spread (Nutella) over the top of the loaf.

Try it with sour cream in the recipe. I think I've posted it somewhere. I could live on banana bread, and, of course, you've seen the photos of my case of bananas on top of the fridge after the food deliveries! My mother in law adheres to the banana a day rule, even though she doesn't like them, and she's a nurse, so you're on to something healthwise.

I LOVE Banana Nut bread. And you are right, it is so freaking good fresh out of the oven, but my problem is, I eat WAY too much when I make it.

You're still getting your vitamins and minerals from the fruit this way. At least we think so!

I feel so dumb. I have never put butter on it. Doh.

I always keep an extra loaf in the freezer for company.
did someone say bananas make them burp? how weird, never heard that.
next time you make this add in some toasted coconut (not plain, but toasted).

Yum! I don't think I'd want to eat a uncooked banana every day but I love banana bread. I like it hot, spread with cream cheese.
