mushroomboree

We found so many mushrooms on our little hike today and as an added bonus we found several pounds of Hen of the Woods. Hen of the Woods or Maitake are right up there in the choice department and they are so good for you that I finally made some mushroom soup, and boy do I like soup, really I do.

Those mushrooms look good. It would be nice if there was somewhere nearby where I could go looking for mushrooms. I guess I will just have to look for them in the farmers market. :)

I am the only person in 3 square blocks that loves mushroom soup! The Dutch in this area dump it into every casserole(a la Campbell condensed!)... I know, I've done it myself!

I, like Buff love mushroom soup! I like to reconstitute dried mushrooms in water then use that water for the basis of my soup... its really strong with mushroom flavor. Never tried a dairy free version though... I like the dairy FULL one too much! lol

Oh and on an aside, I have some really funky wild mushrooms growing in my yard right now... they are bright orange with a brown cap and look almost like asparagus... my kids call them Halloween Mushrooms...

Nice to see you again!

kevin: woods, parks, neighbors wood chipped landscapes - they are everywhere

deb: its the beauty of Fall

buff: wild mushroom soup blows campbells away - when I was a kid I felt so exotic when I ate campbells mushroom soup.

helene aka kate: I do the same thing, I save a lot of mushrooms by drying them...that one you have in your yard sounds like a stinkhorn - google it and see

I've never seen so many types of mushrooms! I've never been hunting for them either. I buy them from the hunters that know what they're doing. We have alot that are not edible here.

I've heard that maitake taste like lemony chicken. Is that true?
I would love to taste them.

There's this guy and he has his own website called, The Sneeze, and he ate bright orange fungus growing out of his tree. It's really funny - you should read it. Sneeze.com

I'm so jealous! I used to go mushroom hunting with my father but haven't found the time in past years. It something I really want to change when we move.

We get a bunch of shaggy manes in our suburb yard but I fear eating them because of all the crap the neighbors spray all year round.
