After I got the nets folded up and stowed away I rinsed off the deck and got the boat ready to sit in the harbour for a little relaxing bit because I wasnt finished yet.

Wheat thrashers are a wonderous thing and I dont know what I would do without one but thats getting side tracked a little and I have flour to grind. See when you are me and you want to make something from scratch no task is to great or to small to get to the finished product.

I wanted a lobster roll but I am on a shrimp budget so I did the next best thing - I made a shrimp roll. Purists out there will tell you that a shrimp roll does not compare to a lobster roll and they would be right - economists out there will tell you that pound for pound shrimp is the better deal and fantasists will tell you that if you let your mind go and imagine its lobster it can be lobster.

Well it isnt lobster its shrimp but its still pretty darn good.

After I ground the flour and sorted the shrimp I baked the bread. While the bread was baking I took some steamed and peeled shrimp and mixed them whole with a little celery, onion and mayo - and that was it! I loaded the whole thing into my fresh made rolls and chowed down like Bubba Gump. (parts of this post were fabricated to enhance the experience of the shrimp roll)

It does look darn GOOD to me too!
I'd eat it, shrimp, lobster, hell--I'd even try that imitation crab. Looks good. The roll sounds like it was harder work ;)
Hmmmm...I wonder which part?
Yum! I like lobster rolls but I prefer hot lobster rolls over cold ones. If you have ever been to the Big E you can get a pretty good lobster roll for around $4 at the Maine building.
Now onto the shrimp roll. Delicious! I bet this is a perfect treat to calm a hungry stomach.
yeah, which part!! Iam in the mood for fried shrimp poboys..
I like shrimp better than lobster anyways!!! And how can you go wrong when it's on when of those rolls?!
angie: I could eat three of them
tavolini: it kind of was - the thrasher was thrashed
jill: I didnt really fold up the nets...
nutmeg: I would love to go to the Big E - what is the Big E?
snugs: fried oyster po-boys are my all time fav's
reeni: you cant go wrong - good observation! You blurred your picture even more - LOL
Yum! I coulda had a shrimp roll! (smacking myself in the forehead)
That looks fantastic! Great pictures!
Parts were fabricated? Really? I'm stunned. You can bring your shrimp rolls here any time. I love seafood, but it's so freakin' expensive here!
And the Big E is the Eastern States Exposition held in Springfield, Mass every year. I think it's in October, but I've been out of CT since 1987 so my memory's a little fuzzy now.
As much as I love lobster, I'd take a shrimp roll any day.
it looks really good and I haven't eaten shrimp that way so, I'm going to do this..
Shrimp roll sounds terrific to me!
Holy smack that looks fabulously delicious! Thanks for sharing.
I'm thinking of Maine right about now!!
Grinding flour? You crack me up, totally! I'm not even on a shrimp budget. We're probably going to get some strange disease from eating too much shellfish - free in our local waters.
Love lobsters rolls too but too many $'s if you don't live up east. So simple to prepare and for such a divine taste. Is that a Ciabatta roll? Looks wonderful.
Hope Ida has left you and the weather is better.
Sam
I could have had lobster for what I paid for that prime beef rib-eye I told you about! Today, I'm going to make the world's most expensive fajitas from the steak we didn't eat..
i think i would actually prefer this to a lobster roll, looks awesome to me!
Lol I am on a shrimp budget too lol.
Loverly.
I've missed your sense of humour!
Just been catching up on some of your previous posts... man, you have got a serious tool kit there.
Hope your weekend is going well.
yeah, Like Jill, I wonder which part... Did you really ground your own flour???
It looks perfect to me and Id be thrilled to have that on my plate!
uh huh, and just where do you store your shrimp boat in nyc? hmmmm?
Sign me up....I'll take a shrimp roll any day!
*sign* I would really love a shrimp roll right now.
I've been trying to get to the basics of cooking... I need a thrasher too
Oh my turtle shell! This looks soooo DARN DARN DARN DARN GOOD! Give me one, give me one. Please? Hehe.
Your musings on cost and taste in the shrimp vs. lobster battle were spot-on. Glad the shrimp was much more than satisfactory. :)
My dad loves Bubba Gump!
Lobster who? This looks delicious! He he "Shrimp Biggie"...my nickname when I was a kid was "cocktail shrimp". I was pretty small back then, though then I discovered things like yummy shrimp rolls, so I'm more of a shrimp biggie now.
I love shrimps, I love lobster, I would love one of those sandwiches ( actually looks like something I would be able to make!!) and I also love Forrest Gump " life is like a box of chocolettes... " :o)
I prefer shrimp to lobster, actually, and this baby looks scrumptious! And seriously? You made these perfect rolls from scratch?
LMAO...whew, you worked hard for that killer shrimp roll! Looks wonderful to me :)
I love the pictures!!!That roll looks awesome :)
Looks good & looks like fun!
Thoughts pictures remind me of my visit to the Virgin Islands....ohhh good memories
I love lobster rolls but I wouldn't mind trying out the shrimp ones either! This past summer, my boyfriend and I ate lobster rolls all day when we were in Connecticut.
