the big bag

Oh yeah, buttery golden kernels of love.

I
talked about getting this a couple of months ago and I toyed and I dilly dallied and I futzed around with the idea from then until now; a couple of days ago I ordered 50 pounds of popcorn, it arrived today. What was I thinking? Let me go put this in my silo! I got mad when I thought the UPS guy had come and gone knowing that I would have to lug this 'package' up the block. Imagine my surprised excitement when I went down in my huffy puffy way and there was a big ol' box from UPS in my building near the mailboxes. Imagine my surprised excitement when I had to carry it up to the fifth floor. 50 pounds of popcorn is like 100 pounds of 'live' weight, I think the only thing that feels heavier is 25 pounds of concrete or 10 pounds of gold. (did I forget to say that this is a large feed bag of corn? - OK just checking)

It is super fresh and pops super great but it isnt all mushroom. The person at the place tells me its a percentage deal - well I aint done with them yet!

Poor baby, carrying all that heavy popcorn up flights of stairs! I don't get what you mean about a percentage deal. (a Bernice moment?)

Hey--what better time of year to have an enormous bag of popcorn?

I'd say up your netflix to the max and every night is movie night until its warm enough to go swimming again ;)

pumpkin: uh huh and that aint the half of it - well it is all of it but I wanted to sound dramatic

joy: 85% muchroom 15% butterfly

chef e: this is a good diet to be on...

You are a big fan of popcorn? (guessing wildly)
You know when you finaly get tired og eating it, (but still have 14 pound left) you can pop them and thread them on a string and decorate your kitchen with it, that will probably happen just in time for Christmas 2011 I think!

"It doesn't show signs of stopping, but I brought some corn for popping, the lights are turned way down low, let it snow, let it snow, let it snow!"

Americans say how bad it is for you, but ironically, Native Americans have been eating corn for centuries! Then the gov't started giving us enriched wheat flour and we became civilized.

Dog, this bag would last me and Bina about a week, tops. Popcorn was our major food group when we were teenagers, we ate it everyday for about 4 years! Good times....

now I have to go make some and put some chili on it!!!!

zen: let me know when you want some

snugs: that is an interesting combo I have heard of before - we shall try it

anette: I have tried to string it up it takes a long time and it breaks easy

ap: let it snow let it snow let it snow

TBD: if you are like me you are eating some now

beth: mmmmmmmm, with chile it is finger lickin' good!

I use about 3 pounds a year! How the heck are you going to keep it fresh?

Christo Gonzales said...

buff: as long as it stays relatively dry(as in not wet-humidity is fine) it should be OK for at least a year....

Phfrankie Bondo said...

...I'll be growing popcorn this year....I'll have to look into the mushroom variety...I was not aware....

You got a vaccuum packer? If not, Santa should get you one....

Must just be the season...Tired of rich food...This is what I had for dinner last night..Not quite this much of course, but it hit the spot...Like it freshly popped and steaming..I would so make some caramel corn if I had this much to work with..My favorite is actually white cheddar, though I am not sure how one would get the "flavored powder?" to make it....

phrankie b: sounds good I can send you some seeds to get you started

buff: will a 'seal a meal' be good or is there some brand I need to look for

stacey s: I know, I dont know what gets into me sometimes

chef e: saw it - thanks

sautegrillfryfunnygirl: you could use the powder from mac & cheese or the dry mixes for making ranch dressing or something like that...

Your on Dog- I am giving the food bloggers a 'flip' challenge and I cannot wait to see what they serve me...

Dog, have you been channelling me? You know I buy everything in bulk! But I figure feeding 7 guys, most of whom top 6' and 200 lbs, gives me good reason. You just wanted to get a ton of stuff, maybe?

And, yeah, I won't be telling them about this. I don't need them getting bored with popcorn and feeding it to Thor!

Holy Crap! 50 pounds of popcorn?? That is freaking crazy! I mean, are you going to pop it every single day and feed it to the birds? LOL

But yea, it wouldn't last me that long.
