curried goat

S
trong bold flavors are good friends with Bordeaux. Typically Bordeaux wines are rich and deep with fruity berry flavors that gives way to a noble woodsiness as they age and a good mouth feel with the tannins as they breathe, it is this depth that allows them to stand up to heavy dishes and strong cheese - this is why Bordeaux is known as the King of wine.

This young Bordeaux Superieur was incredibly drinkable and went so nicely with the goat curry, brown jasmine rice and lentils. Its broad fruitiness melded beautifully with the spiciness of the dish. I did a little search of my blog and it looks like we had goat almost exactly two years ago - but that wasnt the only time I am sure.

I almost forgot to mention the labne, this was mixed with a little cilantro and green onion and was a fantastic accompaniment with the curry.

The St. Emilion was exceptional with the cheese assortment. It was a nice way to round off the husky flavors of the curry and to wind down the palate with a mix of delicious cheeses where each one could have stood on its own as perfection.

There was the blue assortment.

Morbier was probably the most delicate of the cheeses and its milky mellowness really brought out the smooth mouth feel of the St. Emilion.

The goat cheese was a unique flavor after having had goat curry it presented itself so confidently.

As I said before these are not the most expensive of the Bordeaux wines but as far as I am concerned any Bordeaux is better than no Bordeaux.

I've only had goat meat one time and it really was delicious. If I remember right it was a curry. Fabulous post and great photos.

When I used to work as a paramedic in Brooklyn, part of our response area was Crown Heights, and some of the best West Indian food around. one of my favorites was goat roti, from Glenda's off ofNostrand Ave.

I love curried goat! I had a Jamaican roommate in college who made it for me and they sometimes have it at the local Indian buffet (although i usually pass it up for their awesome chickpeas).

Yum for the goat and the wine, but the cheese is too advanced for me!

Mmmmmmmmm food and wine. These pictures make me really happy. We do not drink a lot of wine around here because Mr. Nutmeg Nanny does not like it. So I'm left drinking the whole bottle myself. Which is not really a bad thing I guess.... :)

I remember eating goat meat from a cart near my NYC office years ago. It was not a good experience - loaded with bone shards. Yours looks infinitely better.

I adore wines from the Bordeaux region too! Great that you paired it with curried goat!

Lovely and yummy. I like a good glass of bordeaux once in a while. You know I've never tried goat, but that first picture is enough to make me want to try it.

I could really go for a glass (or 3) of wine. Home sick with the stomach bug. :-( But I'm starving, and cannot eat. Isn't that a true foodie, still hungry thru a stomach bug?

We want to make goat! Caribbean or Indian style. Do more wine pairings, so the rest of us can be more educated.

Just picked up goat chops at the winter Farmers' Market and have absolutely no idea what to do with it. So thank you for some flavor inspiration and wine pairing! My husband, though, would bypass the goat and head straight for the bleu cheese assortment.

Fabulous looking cheese and wine and the goat dish looks very very delicious. I haven't had any since leaving Texas - and your picture makes me crave it. There was Mexican place in San Antonio that served the most delicious grilled cabrito. It's such a tasty meat! Nice post!
