Tan My My

The 'agitated' fish market. I went - again - this morning to get more Tilapia and some wild Louisiana shrimp, they werent agitated today mostly because I helped myself and left them to tend to the other customers.

Not much to look at from the sidewalk.

Crabs and other shelled items.

Fish steaks.

The shrimp selection.

Whole fish and whole red fish.

Partial look of the filet selection - highlighting the super cheap Tilapia.

The LARGE fish.

Mussels, clams and oysters.

Squids and other undefinables.

This is just the fresh fish section, there is also a frozen section with crab legs and whatever else is frozen, and a complete butcher shop with butchers showcasing beef, pork and poultry. There is a dumpling lady offering samples of dumplings and a sushi guy (he's new) and wrapping around the outside is fresh produce. So 5 pounds of shrimp and 4 pounds of tilapia later its on the blog.

Man, we may have produce here in California, but we don't have seafood shopping like that! You lucky dog!

I could take a picture of any fish market in this city and it would look better than this. This is basic fish. All the stores lay this fauna out like its art, chinatown just gives it to you as it is.

ChelsPJ; nothing I can say....I wish you had this too....

We get fresh fish from our neighbor- a prolific fisherman. I'll tell the story in my blog!

Buffallo: living in this crowded dirty city does have its perks...LOL

AKA: Lucky you, fresh off the boat.

Little: I have to resist just eating it raw, thats how much I love salmon.

What a fish market! As Michelle said, "You lucky dog!".
It must be amazing to live in NYC.
Would you recommend any culinary schools there?

Christo Gonzales said...

emilie: the french culinary institute..but I think they have expanded so the name might have changed

we have nothing that compares to this in rural South Carolina. There is not even a butcher shop. Its sad.

Christo Gonzales said...

tavolini:welcomen how nice to see you. the colors are nice especially the colors within the colors.

Har: get broiling sister.

Snowelf: steak and taters is great and if indeed you do like shrimp and calamari now you have surf and turf - what a funny phrase that doesnt work any other way - no coop and bog or stream and sty - i guess it has to rhyme...LOL

Mel: not even a butcher - hard to fathom
