I said Great!

As it turns out its called "American Womens Cookbook" It started off in like 1938 and this beat up copy is from 1956. I dont know how much or if anything changed between printings but it was printed for almost 20 years. This is a 'how to' book if it isnt anything else, come on it has the coolest thumb tabs.

You are immediatly welcomed by an oppulent photograph of some fondants or petit fours or what kind of sweet thing, on the inside cover.

after you thumb through a bit you start finding things like this.

Keep on flipping and you might find this.

The fried delight on the left top is a carrot. (sorry blurry, in
fact all are blurry so sorry for all but I like do one or two
offs and if it isnt right I move on)

I dont even know whats on this page but I will post the
reindeer one now....can you believe it reindeer...warning-
its bllllurrrry.

But not before a meat check.

All on point. ready Reindeer. This alone could turn
me into a vegetarian...but it wont.

blurry..but reindeer...come on american women
what is going on here?

life with out a maid

I guess thats just the icing on the cake.

And merrily we roll along, roll along, roll along.

Wow! I love reading and finding stuff from way back in the day...how interesting. Of course, I think you need to type up the section "Life Without a Maid" so I can read it.
It sucks that we liberated ourselves right out of having maids. What the hell were women thinking back then????LOL

Fried carrots...that's just NASTY. Fried Pickles I'd eat, but fried carrots....yuck.

Really cool old cook book!

My oldest cookbooks (3) are from the thirties, and it's amazing to me how many items are still cooked the same as today! In fact, some of the older techniques are back in vogue. I cruise used book stores for cook books (love to collect old church cookbooks!) and have found many unique ones....

Doggy, you mean to tell me you've never had a fried pickle???? Oh,my! There is a little German Restraunt around here that has fried pickles, and they're some serious yummy. They've got some serious kick. I thought fried pickles were somewhat normal....now I'm thinking it's just a German-Heritage-town-thing. Who knew?

Reindeer? As in Rudolph?

I think I really missed my calling as a food illustrator--that reindeer would definitely have a "hidden" red nose...

Christo Gonzales said...

Stephanie: why cant it just be lumped in with venison, I mean come on 'reindeer' sounds the same as barbie or sponge bob to me it invokes holiday cheer.

Tavolini: I would love to see your rendition.
