I stole this from this guy, a song from 'back in the day.' Pretty much sums it up I would think, today Jethro Tull speaks for me....

That one sounds better but here is a live version....

You dont care to listen or watch, then here are the lyrics....

Dont want to be a fat man,
People would think that I was
Just good fun.
Would rather be a thin man,
I am so glad to go on being one.
Too much to carry around with you,
No chance of finding a woman who
Will love you in the morning and all the night time too.
Dont want to be a fat man,
Have not the patience to ignore all that.
Hate to admit to myself half of my problems
Came from being fat.
Wont waste my time feeling sorry for him,
I seen the other side to being thin.
Roll us both down a mountain
And Im sure the fat man would win.

Its Friday! What can I say?

the call of the wild

The Call of the Wild
is a novel by American writer Jack London. The plot concerns a previously domesticated and even somewhat pampered dog named Buck, whose primordial instincts return after a series of events...... Its possible most of you have read this book, interesting story, a classic that was followed up later by White Fang in which a wild wolf becomes civilized...I recommend them if you have not read them.

I like to eat things from nature as often as I can, whether its some hand picked chestnuts or mushrooms that I have foraged or even some game meat, eating the things that nature provides gives me a feeling of wholeness. I thought that I should show you what not an average, proper Irish breakfast looks like. It has a lot of the same things as a 'proper' Irish breakfast except for my little spins here and there.

I start off with some Peruvian purple potatoes.

A few field mushrooms

Eggs-organic, free range, never yelled at, tricked or beguiled, in fact these eggs are so innocent they are probably virgins, a claim not easily made by most!

Slab bacon, New Mexico red chile and on the plate it goes. The first picture above has the chile under the eggs but I like to add a little more on top, I am spicy like that!

Be careful when you cry wolf!

veganomics

W
ell its not wolf blood thats for sure! Its pomegranate.
The Pomegranate (Punica granatum) is a fruit-bearing deciduous shrub or small tree growing to 5–8 m tall. The pomegranate is native to the region from Afghanistan, Pakistan, and Iran to the Himalayas in northern India and has been cultivated and naturalized over the whole Mediterranean region and the Caucasus since ancient times. It is widely cultivated throughout Armenia, Iran, India, the drier parts of southeast Asia, Malaya, the East Indies, and tropical Africa. Introduced into Latin America and California by Spanish settlers in 1769, pomegranate is now cultivated mainly in the drier parts of California and Arizona for its fruits exploited commercially as juice products gaining in popularity since 2001. In the global functional food industry, pomegranate is often mentioned among a novel category of exotic plant sources called "superfruits"

I thought of calling this 'veggie sunrise' and 'tropical borscht' and maybe a couple other equally unnoteworthy titles then I settled simply on 'veganomics' I dont know why.

Tropical borscht is probably the better description of this refreshing soup that is a mix of hot and cold that can be served warm as well. It is simple to make (I say that everytime huh?) but this time it is super simple, so simple its hard to call it cooking.

A little pomegranate juice some steamed winter vegetables, in this case its turnip, butternut squash and yam, and some pomegranate seeds. Thats it. Eat it hot or cold or a mix like say warm juice and warm veggies or cold juice and warm veggies. No matter the temperature the flavor is thrilling!

soul food

Who doesnt like a hot bowl of soup? Soup is a constant around these parts it gets requested through out the year.

If you dont like mushrooms then you need to ease on down the road, dont worry there will be other days that are fungus free. This is a chicken and mushroom delight - you can have it with chicken, without chicken, with mushrooms without mushrooms or a combo. It warms your soul!

first day of last month

Cold lasgana can pretty much sum up my mood lately. This year is winding down so fast, made some friends and alienated others - seems about par for the course. You can please some of the people some of the time but its really hard to please me - I think thats how the saying goes.

This salad isnt for me, do you know how you can tell?

I dont like meat in my salads (or boiled eggs or chunks of yellow cheese) in fact I prefer only mixed greens, tomato, and cucumber if I have a choice. See how picky I am?

I saw this guy today and he pretty much captures the essence. I dont know if I am him, the tire, the chain or what! (He 'runs' up my block often) but I can relate to this somehow.
