Rest in Peace BuffaloDick

My good buddy passed away unexpectedly yesterday and now there is a big gaping hole where he once sat. Richard (Dick) DeYoung also known as BuffaloDick, here on the internets, was a good friend of mine. We spoke at least every other day on the phone for an hour at a time at least. This guy was a man that I instantly bonded with, we both commented the first time we spoke about 3 years ago or so how it felt like we were long lost friends that somehow found each other again. We would have heated debates with him telling me "sure your food looks good but does it taste good" and then he would throw out some kind of "lips on a woodpecker" kind of old saying and tell me how good his tasted. I always threatened to meet him and make him eat some of my "pretty food" - I still believe that someday I will.

You will always be in my thoughts Buff, always! We often sent each other little packages here is a one he sent me a while back...

This is terrible and I'm sorry you've lost a friend. The couple of times he commented on my blog, I'd have to laugh when I saw his "BuffaloDick".

I just learned of this news not 5 minutes ago in an email from a friend. I cannot believe my eyes. This photo is the only photo I've ever seen of BD. He always commented on my blog posts...always. Nice tribute Christo, I feel sadness for all of us.

I was stunned by Craig's news. One day Dick's there, cooking, commenting, and pushing our buttons a little bit, all in great fun, and then, suddenly, he's not. Let's face it, who else would ever say that a dress should have a low neckline and high hemline on a sewing post, even if that's exactly what every man thinks? I'll miss him terribly.

Oh, I'm so sorry to hear of your loss. He looks like such a jolly, kind fellow. I'm so glad you had the chance to know him.

You know, I always kind of felt like he was your "partner in food crime". :)

There is so much comfort in knowing he had such a loving family and friends (who felt like family) like you in his life. I absolutely adored Unclebuf and I know you guys were fabulous friends. He was much too young to go and I know we all are going to miss him.

Hugs,

--snow

I give my deepest regards to his family--Buffalo had a huge place in so many blogger's (and everyday people's) lives. He will be missed, along with his famous chili and his strong love for his family.

Michigan mourns the loss of BuffaloDickdy.

It's nice to comment with someone that actually "knew" B.D., at least by phone conversation. He was ALWAYS one HELL OF A CHARACTER commenting on my blog, and I always tried to "pay him back" as best I could, lol !

The man ALWAYS "Told It Like It Was", and I'll REALLY miss him.

CONGRATS ON THE WIN - You SHOULD have won MONTHS ago in my opinion :)

Let us know when you schedule the next Blogger Culinary Smackdown, JUDGE !

Good morning Doggybloggy,

You honor your friend well. Godspeed to him.

Congratulations on your smackdown win.

That was very sweet, DoggyBloggy, even though I've not been coming by your blog for long, I could tell that you two were buddies. He only started coming to my blog in the last month, he seemed like a very fair minded guy that spoke his mind. And he was from Michigan, always a plus in my book. I will miss him too and am sorry you lost a friend. x
