hot for trotters

Hey there lovely people in bloglandia you might have wondered what happened to me - well the answer is absolutely nothing. Yup, nothing. After I was eliminated a little too soon from the Project Food Blog contest all the air was sucked out of my sails but I have huffed and I have puffed and I have managed to get those sails sailing again. I have reflected enough and dwelled a plenty and I have been eating things you dont even want to know about. (vegans and vegetarians if the first picture didnt warn you enough I am here to warn you now, back out slowly this post is not for you).

Mondongo is a version of one of my favorite dishes and that is menudo and posole. Posole you know, hominy corn and pigs feet and once you add some tripe it magically becomes menudo. Mondongo is pigs feet or cows feet and tripe and various tropical tubers in a thick and rich broth that I like to have with a side of white rice. (check the wiki link to see all of its variants because just like posole and menudo everybody makes mondongo different- there is no right or wrong way).

Mondongo is also this dance mix if you google it and randomly click things called mondongo.

This link will take you to a recipe and you can make your own and when you are done your bowl will look like this if you did it right. Me, I get mine at any of a number of fantastic restaurants around NYC that serve this up daily. My tart is up for votes here if you still want to vote on something. Voting ends midnight of the 22nd.

I've never made it but I love it. Usually make sure to have a bowl at some local joint when I'm in Puerto Rico.

Sorry about the contest. I understand about taking a breather and I'm glad you're back!

This looks pretty tasty, Christo. My favorite Mexican dive back in Texas had a home cooking night with menudo and other authentic dishes. I loved the flavor of that broth!

Ooh, love pigs' feet. I've never had mondongo before. Definitely have to make it.

I'm glad you're back up on your feet. :) I want some menudo right now. Along with a nice hefty bowl of rice to go along with it.

I'm glad you are back! And I am glad you took a breather to get your mojo back! BTW they are casting for Hell's Kitchen now (hint hint).

Pigs feet...hmmm..erm.

I'm surprised you were eliminated. I'm sure it's not just on vote count, surely Foodbuzz has input on who advances. And that's the part that surprises me. You've got a great blog and always do such a fabulous job. After all that said, I love Mexican, but just don't think I see trotters in my future. :-)

If voting ends at Midnight on Friday, then why are you out? Sorry that happened to you.

I voted for your gorgeous tart a couple of days ago. Good luck. You are much too good for that contest, so pooh on them.

I'm so glad you are showing the followers gadget. I've been following for a long time, but I checked follow gadget anyway.

If I get two of your posts at a time now, I'll be able to enjoy twice as much. According to May West, too much of a good thing is wonderful and who would argue with May?

Awww, I can't believe that you are out of the running...

Oh gosh, I am so going to buy some trotters and making split pea soup.

That totally sucks about you not going forward in the contest...you rock! I voted for your tarts. They look delicious :)

So onto this soup...hmmm. I'm not sure how I feel. Growing up I used to watch my Dad devour pickled pigs feet. It always grossed me out. (For the record my Dad will eat anything pickled. His favorites: pigs feet, beef heart, eggs and beets) BUT since I like adventurous when it comes to food I would give this soup a try :)

welcome back! but leave that dish far far away from me!! You don't need to win any of those contests to be a winner with me :)

Glad you're back...bummer on being eliminated.

Mom used to make pickled pigs feet all the time...but I've never had mondango. You can't scare me off, though!

You were eliminated? After that amazing dinner party meal? I am shocked! But I really think anything like this is more a popularity contest than a sign of true talent. I still want to eat at your house. Bt pig's trotters....um, ooooh don't know if I would have the courage. But if you cooked it...
