camera woes

y now most of you know that I use a little point and shoot Casio camera, and if you can recall previous posts you will remember that I use the hell out of these cameras and I often need to replace them, guess what? I sent my camera in to get fixed because the video stopped working and now I am a camera bum borrowing whatever camera I can get my hands on. I am in an endless loop with Casio since I purchase the warranty and the cameras cease to function before the warranty is up I get offered the next newest camera for about $80 bucks and it comes with a new warranty. So I spend $80 dollars a year on new Casio cameras. This is getting old. Should I continue with the warranty loop or should I start over? As dumb as it sounds I like the Casio, it aint the hammer its the carpenter.

Whatevs' I have some pictures in the archives I can use and I can always use Bananas camera or the pups (they both have new ones too since I last complained, by the way - Banana has a new canon and the pup has a little video camera). These pictures are from our little drive up towards Woodstock to get some fresh duck and chicken eggs last weekend that I had heard about from this blog. 100 miles each way and the little miles in between just futzing around. Twists and turns and finally we find the little sign.

Inside are the eggs, or so we think.

Yup its the honor system.

The thought crossed my mind to clean em' out - come on I live in NYC thats how we think, but I didnt and we dropped in our 10 bucks and scored 4 beautiful dozen.

We love our eggs and we love em' more when they are free range and cage free.

These shoes are Leopoldo Girodano, they are brand new 37 1/2 - google him. Banana wants to sell them, they dont fit her and they are left over from a photo shoot. Let me know if you are interested.

If you are spending $80 a year and all the hassle ... then add it up and you can get a better quality camera for a similar amount of money and not have to deal with the bs...

Justin: I know, but i only purchased the warranty the first time - these additional cameras keep falling under its spell...its like I rent a camera.

Start over! How about a Canon Powershot - those are good point and shoot cameras.

I have a Canon Powershot and I think it was in the $100-120 range (not sure, it was a Xmas gift). In 2 yrs it hasn't given me an ounce of trouble except once I saved some wrong setting but it was a snap to re-set the factory settings to undo it.

I'd say if the camera keeps giving you hassle and you're paying $80 a year you should save the next $80 to go towards a better point and shoot option, or save up a few $80 and get a super nice one that won't give you any trouble. At this point seems kind of like leasing a car - continuous payments on something you will never fully own yourself!

My mom was stuck in a similar situation w/ an old film camera (years ago) by Kodak taht she LOVED. When her 4th one died that's when she finally listened to all of us and went w/ something different. I think you'll hit that point one day - maybe not with this Casio - maybe the next?? hehe

oh yummy eggs and casio need to hire you to show folks how to use them!

Sorry about the camera blues. I like mine - it's a Canon Rebel XTi. Haven't had any problems with it yet - other then it's hefty price tag. What pretty eggs you got though! Lucky! I was given some guinea hen eggs a few weeks ago and they were wonderful. Made a few things with them like a breakfast tart. Yum.

Christo, I'm sorry to hear about your camera woes. How frustrating. Meakin swears by Nikon and bought his first one when we first married zillions of years ago. It was so heavy I could barely lift it. So much technology has changed since then. His new love is his D90, but I had to spend more than my allowance to buy it for his birthday.

I agree with Rebecca - Casio should pay YOU to show people how to use them, instead of you paying them.

Don't you just love the "honor system?" We have it here in the mountains at farm stands that are in people's yards. It's nice to know that some people still have faith in mankind.

Get a SLR camera. I still like my Canon G3...well, relatively old, but works quite fine.

Doggy, I think it's time to just bite the bullet and get a good one that lasts for longer than a year. I'm just saying....

I wish I could find eggs like that near me. The different pastel colors always catch my eye. (And a great photo despite the camera woes.)

I swear by my Kodak. But that's just me. For great photographs, I still go back to my 35mm Leica R4. There's a reason that puppy cost big bucks.

100 miles for eggs...that's impressive!! Had I know you were making a special trip just for the goods, I would have suggested that you stop by Pathfinders, just down the road for the eggs to load up on grass-fed beef.

I am getting ready to buy a Canon 380; heard they were great! don't know why you put yourself through all the hassle! I hate to deal with warranties and sending stuff and whatever! Just assume dump the stuff and get something really high quality.

Get a new one!

They taste so much better fresh! I try to buy them local all the time. We have all kinds of signs on the side of the road :)

oh... I have a Canon powershot elph that I always have in my purse. And a Canon Rebel that I pack around when I know for sure I'm going to take pictures :)

Loved your comment about being from NY and the honor system. LOL.

I agree re the Canon. I use mine EVERY day. It takes a lickin' and keeps on tickin'. We all can't be wrong!

Now I've got duck eggs on my mind for tomorrow's trip to the farmers' market . . .

I join the Canon chorus!

Remember last year when we went up to Hudson, NY and the organic farm had the honor system to pay for the chickens and eggs?
It was so suprising to see $20 bills just laying in a jar.

When my little Canon point & shoot goes, I will cry. I hate to learn new tricks!

Break the Casio chain !!!

I had a Canon Powershot 220 Digital Elf that lasted 8 YEARS. It only passed on after I finally dropped it with the zoom lense open !!

Of course, I bought ANOTHER Canon Powershot, now with 5 times the megapixels for HALF the price of my original !

I have NO IDEA how you do what you do with a point-and-shoot camera. You would go crazy with an SLR and MACRO lens. I think you should upgrade. Go for a Canon 50D and a 60 mm lens. You would be like a child visiting a candy store for the first time.

It's kind of like you're leasing a camera. And maybe someday. You'll take the plunge and just buy one. And to think, at least you won't have to take out loans or deal with payment plans...

I wanna buy a camera too but I'm waiting until I've worn this one out...

Sorry to hear about the camera...I am pretty happy with my canon :-)

The eggs look so nice...wish could have something like this around here.

1. Good deal on the eggs, I know how much you love 'em and I can't wait to see what you do with them!

2. I still love dose darn choos.

3. Upgrade to a new camera that you can change lenses. You are good at taking food photos so why not work with better equipment with more options? Maybe even a good second hand one. Hey....maybe they will take a pair of gold Leopoldo Girodano as a deposit?!

Just my two cents!

Love the honor system eggs. They'd be stolen in a second down here. Cripes. I'd forgotten what it's like to live like that!

I have an old Canon. You just can't kill it.

Sippity Sup said...

I too use a point and shoot camera! I find the whole obsession with blog photography so not the point of a food blog. Naturally I like great pictures, but I also eat the food with in seconds of shotting it. I recently saw a post on some blogger forum about what a good replacement for a smoothie was in a photo. Replacement for the food in a food photo just because the smoothie keeps melting is just plain wrong! Yikes. Where due did that come from? I actually came here to tell you that I used the knives you "gave" me in a picture for a post recently. Not only are they fun to use, but they are pretty too. GREG

not having a camera is not an acceptable excuse to not blog you dog...paint us a picture with your words describing what had been going on in your cocina!!

I agree with the others - a Canon Powershot has my vote, that is if you don't want to invest in a DSLR but I say, buy a camera for your needs not your wants. Too often we tend to buy things with way too many features than we would actually use.
