Creative Cooking Crew: Meat and Potatoes

Everyone has their favorite meat and potato dish that makes them feel comfortable and conjures up nostalgia and for me its anything with mashed potatoes. Mashed potatoes can take me back to Sundays as a kid faster than anything, and while I didnt particularly care for the over cooked roast beef or the crock pot stew I loved the mashed potatoes and gravy. So it would only be fitting that I post another classic meat and potatoes dish - burgers and fries. Yeah, I know you thought I was going in the mashed potato direction but thats just too obvious.
I did do a fish dish with purple mashed potatoes but I am reasonably convinced that thinking outside of the box is a little too demanding for most people and I would hear comments like "that isnt meat" but if it isn't meat then what is it? I will let you ponder that one a while.
A good burger needs good fries and the best way to get good fries is to fry them twice, once to blanch and a second time to crispy them up.

Once the fries are done then make your burger, I like mine with mustard and mayo on a toasted bun with lettuce (shredded) tomato and red onion - oh and of course cheese, good ol' yellow american, add a strawberry milkshake and you are good to go.

I'm so incredibly hungry for a burger and double-fried french fries. Hold the onion please. Thanks Christo. :) Looks divine.

Burger and fries are definitely meat n' potatoes. Milkshake is pretty but I'd prefer a beer. :)

I'll take that burger and fries any day, but I have to say that the fish and purple potatoes are alluring too. Glad to see you blogging again.

There are times that when only a good burger and fries will hit the spot...Second by the times with meat and potatoes ( yes I am thinking pot roast or crockpot beef) hits the spot too). Perhaps, I need to look at fish differently :-)

Take care.

Even though I eat my weight in vegetables every month, the classic burger and fries is still my favorite food, as long as I eat in every few months. Serve it to me with a vanilla milkshake and I'm in heaven.

There's something about that burger & fries photo...the bend of the straw, the thick cut fires, pink milkshake...it really is a neat image.
I'm likin' your original "meat" dish. That's the meat we eat the most, love the colors - purple, green, white.
Can't wait to see what you do with the next challenge :)

Simple is best sometimes and there's nothing like great fries. Fun photo too.

Our challenge was to take the classic culinary combination and give it a different spin. Any cut of beef was in play, as well as any variety of potato.I decided to rethink the classic Cuban dish: Carne con Papas. Which literally translates to meat and potatoes. My Grandmother taught me this dish when I was probably 10 years old.The original dish is basically a stew of beef, tomatoes, & potatoes. I wanted to keep that element of the dish intact. However, I did not want to stew the meat in with the potatoes. So, I roasted off some beef neck bones and added them to the stew. That way the essence of Carne con Papas, is there in every bite. Without a doubt, the roasted beef neck bones gave me the desired effect I was looking for. Roast them at 390 F for 60 minutes.

This month the... was to take the classic culinary combination of Meat & Potatoes, and rethink it. Any cut of meat was in play, as was any variety of potato. The spirit of this group remains the same, take our love of cooking and creative endeavor and apply it in the kitchen. Meat & Potatoes provided a wonderful canvas for these fine cooks to paint on.
